TYPEFACE
-
Typefaces are either monospace or proportional.
-
The Characters in sans serif typface do not have serifs (sans is French for without).
-
Sans serif typfaces are generally more legible (characters are easier to recognize) and are often used for headlines and advertisements.

-
The characters in a line of text rest on an imaginary horizontal line called a baseline.
-
The x-height is the height of the main body of the lowercase characters and is equivalent to the height of the lowercase x.
-
The cap height is the distance between the baseline and the top of capital letters.
-
Ascenders are parts of lowercase characters that rise above the x-height, and descenders are parts of characters that extend below the baseline.
-
Serifs are the small strokes at the end of characters.
